Hi! I am a fabriholic anonymous. We probably have different views when it comes to how much fabrics a quilter should have, but I feel like I have reached the maximum of mine and its overflowing. The feel of guiltiness for not cutting those fabrics and working with them has creepily got into me. At some stage I don’t really feel like happy mail are really as much as happy as it used to be. It became a sign of my fabric shopping issue instead. No fun!

I also feel like I could be more productive if I just stop shopping and sew instead.
So, with this declaration,

I the fabriholic will join Jess over at The Elven Garden to start fabric fast from now till the end of June 2014.

Thereafter, the stash will be revised to see whether the fast shall continue or not.
Nonetheless, I have made exceptions :

a) solid white or coordinating solid with the current w.i.p that shall be finished can be bought during the period

b) backing / binding fabrics can be purchased so that all quilts can be completed
and

c) quilt for publication which should be bought only at the time of making

Here is a current photo of 75% of my stash. I am organizing them again and will be taking more photos once it is organized. It will be my “BEFORE” photo. Wait till June 2014 and see the “AFTER”. Hope I succeed! Wish me luck!

So, what I did today was unsubscribe to all online shop newsletter. It was HARD! but I DID it.
I am going to have to close my ears and eyes for sale so that this fasting would go much easier.
I am looking forward to a more productive year, making out of stash and stop wasting time filling up fabric in shopping carts!
Thanks for being here as my witness. I shall update from time to time how the diet is going.
XOXO

  1. You have so much fabric! My whole stash fits in a bucket!

A good piece of advise I have been given about life in general, is pretend you have zero money to spend. Carry no cash in your wallet and hide the card for on-line shopping. Focus on what you have instead of on what you wish you did.
I am sure you can create wonderful projects from all the stash. And if you need white, don’t buy it! do a swap.
Without getting Dr Phil here, it is ok to have it and keep it and never sew it, but if it bothers you, do something about it.
Would love to see pics of what you make by the way.
    Good Luck

  2. Oh Amira!! lol. What wonderful fabrics though…..you know where to send any you don’t want. hahaha.
I could probably sell fabric too. We are all most likely quilty of the same thing. Got my blocks put into rows yesterday….Hope to finish the quilt today. At least get the rows put together….this is my first QAYGQAL…thank you.

  3. What an amazing stash you have! I’m betting you’ll be cranking out some really lovely creations with all those lovely fabrics. Good luck to you. I think it’s awesome that you’ve committed to using what you have.

  4. I’m doing a fabric buying fast, too. I need it in a bad way.

I’m planning to keep a list of new stuff I want to buy and by the time my fast is over I should be able to find it on sale (or I might not really want it when I have to wait).

  5. I have more stash than I’ll EVER use…but it is my Kwilty Pleasure..sew although I kitted 12 projects just this morning from my stash, I hope to make at least 1 top each month in 2014. However,. if I stop stashing…better call an ambulance. I do go thru it on occasion and give fabrics I no longer have a taste for…to a charity group to use for their kwilts.

  6. We all have a little of that going on! I look at my stash and think YUCK! Why did I buy that. But there it sits among the rest, waiting for the chance to be used! And in all honesty, I will one day!
Good luck with your organizing. It looks like so much fun to do!

  7. Good luck with your fasting.I will have to say I used a ton of fabric from my stash for Christmas gifts and it felt good. the only thing I purchased was zippers.
