Hi!

I am back with this quilt and I can say it is finally finished! I put it aside for quite sometimes, after quilting it a quarter way. Then I moved house, and haven’t got the mood to start quilting it again in my smaller sewing space (I shall share with you soon) until last weekend. The quilt has a fold crease now, but I hope it goes away after washing.

Quilt Briar Rose Starry Diamond Equilateral Triangle swirly quilting

I had fun doing free-motion quilting on this quilt. Just swirls and bubbles (or pebbles). The stars were quilted with swirls evolving from the center.

The story behind this quilt? I received my briar rose bundle, decided to cut them as equilateral triangles, then I played around with those triangles. I ended up with this Stars which I group it in Diamond hence the name ~ blergh. Then I decided to add the border. I still have many triangles left, maybe I’ll make another quick baby quilt.

I love this line of fabrics, the colours made me smile. Made me wish I have a baby girl. I am going to keep this quilt or probably gift it to my sister.

Overall, I love the end result, but I wish I have more bed size quilts these days. So, my next projects are going to be more of bed quilts. I love the satisfying feeling of dressing up the bed with quilts I made. What do you do with so many small quilt? My sofa is full, and most of my smaller quilts are just folded, which made me feel sad.

Hope you have a fun holiday! Enjoy the beautiful Spring for those having Spring time, and enjoy Fall for those down-under!

Hi!
DQS14 finished
I finished quilting this little quilt and ready to send it, but I would like to throw in more goodies for my Doll Quilt Swap 14 partner, so I will be getting it posted on the 24th hopefully with more goodies.
Stripping _DQS14
It was a fun quilt to make, though I got a bit stressed out with the seam points not matching. The little squares are 0.5″ finished and I guess it was totally out of my league to get those points to match! I wasn’t really happy at first, but I am pretty happy with the end result though.
Seams behind mini blocks
Scrappy and fun little tiny squares. More like confetti and I guess the mismatches brings out modern vibe to it too.
DQS14 ready to hang
I played with the free motion quilting too, especially in the negative blocks. I love Irish Chain. They are lovely to quilt with. I made an Irish Quilt (link here) when I started free motion quilting and it has definitely taught me a lot.
DQS14 label in front
Practice is the best teacher. I cannot stress that more – practice is the best way to improve free motion quilting. Give it a try. Try a mini quilt. They are fast to get done and they are definitely small enough to fit under those domestic sewing machines. The most important thing is have fun!!
Well, till then I am hoping my swap partner would love this quilt.
XOXO
Hi!

I am finally done with my second version of “I Heart Quilt”.

I Heart Quilt. pattern to be released soon

I fell in love with the first quilt so much that I was not willing to part with it. I remembered making the quilt with intention to sell the finished quilt but I didn’t sell it in the end. For the record, I haven’t even listed any of my finished quilts for sale. However, I am going to make a new record this year by kicking off with my first listing on Etsy.

Since I am not following a pattern, I guess it should be legal to sell it right? That was my concern when I started thinking about selling quilts. I can’t simply sell a quilt I made out of patterns published in magazines and books right? Correct me if I am wrong. Some patterns have written copyrights on them and it’s made clear that we can’t sell quilts made with the pattern. However, how about those in magazines? I guess making quilts to sell is far harder than making it to give.

The plan was to sell it and I didn’t want to break any copyright laws,so I designed “I heart Quilt” and made it up as I go. You can read more about the journey here.

With all the hard work done, might as well, I put an extra effort to make a pattern out of it. It will be great to see more of this quilt in different colors and fabrics. So, I made another version for the pattern writing process and the quilt is Layer Cake friendly!

Here is the link to the quilt pattern on Craftsy.
If you do make one, feel free to link in my flickr group or on craftsy. If you find mistakes or would like to comment on the pattern, I am open to hear it out. This is my first quilt pattern, so I would really love to hear feedbacks!

Here is my last post for the About A Quilt Sampler! This quilt uses the ‘Quilt-As-You-Go’ technique.Thank you for keeping up with me, it was a lovely journey of documenting this QAL.

If you happen to land here first, I have archived all of the posts HERE so you can go through all the tutorials for each block and quilting tutorials included in this quilt-along.

We are now at a stage where we can piece all the blocks together and finally bind the quilt!

Hi!
For those waiting for the About A Quilt Sampler QAL post, I have to say very sorry as I have forgotten to upload the photo of the block tutorial to flickr before I left Canberra. I will get to it before the month ends with the quilting too.
Currently I am back in Malaysia. Visiting my father in law who is still in coma. He is stable and is currently being treated at home. We are praying for his strength to recover and for my mother in law to be as strong to go through this difficult time. Your wishes and prayers are most welcome and appreciated.
Before leaving Canberra, I did manage to get the quilt for my mother in law done. I am getting it hung up in the room where my father in law is staying in. It is fairly a small quilt, but a good size for a wallhanging.

I started this quilt back in 2012 and procrastinate in getting it done. But I am glad it is all bound and ready to
be hung now.

Hi!
At last my Queen Size Scrappy Trip along Quilt is done!
I started this quilt because I got the Scrappy Trip Along bug when I keep envying all the quilts that keeps popping out of the blogland. You can even visit the Flickr group for all Scrappy Trip along goodness.
I posted a bit of the making of this quilt here and here.
And if you interested in making one, here is the tutorial. The making of each block is really fast but I hate pressing so I took a long time doing that.
This is my first time making a queen size quilt and my first time to quilt this large quilt on my domestic machine so I learn a few tips as I go along and hopefully I’ll be able to share the tips soon!
quilting
Anyway, today was a beautiful day in Canberra. The sun finally came out to play today after a week of cloudy cold days.
So, I took the advantage of today’s weather by taking photos of this quilt over at the riverside.
It is still windy and to pick up this large quilt is quite challenging. Here is me and my sis trying to hold up the quilt while making sure my hubby take a good photo of it.

The best we could get is this… so much for the efforts. Hehe.

I hope that gives you the idea of the whole quilt.
Here is the photo of the quilt laid on the ground

The backing of this quilt is vintage sheet with a stripe of orange solid with one scrappy diamond block.

The binding is my favourite of all. It looks like liquorice. I love stripy binding!

What a lovely weekend. I hope you are enjoying yours too!
XOXO,
Hi!
How times fly by, Its Thursday already!
Last weekend was a quick one with very tiny time for sewing, and this week I haven’t put my hand on that sewing machine yet! *sigh*
Anyway, last weekend we planned and did a surprise baby shower party for a friend soon to pop with a baby boy! It was definitely fun, we did spend some ladies chatting time too till late.
Baby Shower
Just a little centrepiece for the party, some toys borrowed from my little one, a cake I quickly whipped up, and some printed  onesies shirts as banners

Me and mum to be and the gift – quilt!
Previously to that, of course, I was busy with that quilt in her hand- as the present for the little one coming!
Modern Log Cabin Baby Quilt
I love the mushroom…and the colours of this line is so lovely! I used several pieces of fat eights of Sarah Watson’s Indian Summer.

Modern Log CAbin_scrappy Borders in the making
And because it was fat eights, none was enough for sashing, so I decided to do scrappy ones! Sew them in rows and press.

Then cut into sashing strips
Stippling Baby Quilt
I did a simple free motion stippling – which was fun! Have not done this for so long!

Winter time is really not kind to photography session… and yes, that’s my little helper peeking there. As usual! Hehe.
Well, that’s all for today, I hope to get some sewing done later today, and will be up with About A Quilt Sampler QAL post soon!
XOXO

Hi!

I am just having fun and thought I’d link this recently made quilt to Ellison’s Modern Mini Quilt Challenge.

Feather Mini

The main point of this quilt was for me to use the technique I learn from Sarah Fielke’s craftsy class : needle turn appliqué! I never would have thought that needle-turn appliqué would be this easy until I tried her method!

I was aiming for minimalist design with some fussy cut feather off Martha Negley’s feather collection and freehand leaves shape. I got my bundle of Martha Negley’s from Westwood Acres.

The colour choices : not really me isn’t? Haha! I was trying to run a bit from my normal bright colours – I kind of regret a bit for the choice.

And as for the quilting, not so minimalist ha? I was aiming to practice feathers. Hence the feathers everywhere. It was totally fun, and definitely has boosted my confidence to do more of quilted feathers.

Well, I hope you will have fun hopping onto Ellison’s blog for more minis! I know I am.

Hi!
Finally I get to show you what I made for the Make it Right challenge! (update:this challenge has passed June 2013)
When I got the fabric, I just know that I don’t want to make it into a quilt. I just want to think a bit out of the box. Indeed I did – and when I want to submit it, I was thinking “hm… which category should it be in? Quilt? Apparel or Home Deco?” Finally I submit it into Home Deco.

I would really appreciate it if you could take a bit of time to like and repin on pinterest!
Click HERE to pinterest pin and click repin or like, because that is the vote they count for the challenge.
Anyway, I made this because the car seat is dull and of course I need to sew something to cheer it up!
And just because I made the backing as nice, I made it reversible too! The improved piecing is the back. Even the back pocket panel can be reversible!

You can refer to this post for the type of material and threads I used for this project.
Here are more photos: I quilt as happily as I can be. With very little planning really. I was just having fun most of the time! Glad it made it to the end!

All quilting was done on my . Bunnings (hardware store here in Australia) Glove works as good as machinger’s glove and cost only 1/3 of machinger! And the colour is blue!
The ruler story : I do not change foot while quilting this despite of many straight lines,  because I can’t be that patience! LOL.. I find this Fine LIne Quilter’s Ruler helpful to use on domestic machine, but sometimes foot can jump over it too! talk about dangerous (imagine the needle snapping on it)..you can find the ruler HERE > if you are interested.
Update: I love the ruler now that I can use it with my non-hopping foot!
