Another finished quilt of the year! Yeay, this one came together so quickly, part of the reason why I love accountability and due dates!

This is a part of the quilt-along that is hosted by one of favourite shop, the Fat Quarter Shop

Rocket Star Quilt Along (3rd May) prep:

  • Rocket Star Quilt Pattern
  • Starburst Ruler – highly recommend this, there’ll be a template in the pattern, but I sliced through my homemade template twice!
  • Stripology Ruler – I am recommending this as I used mine for all those sashing. So, so useful.
  • Rocket Star Quilt Kit (Exclude backing) featuring a new line by Basic Grey – NOVA. I love Basic Grey, and this one is no exception! Just gorgeous!
  • You can also check out NOVA by Basic Grey HERE. Tell me what do you think of the line? I love florals and geometric – so I am definitely in love with it!

So, come and join us!

Here is mine, all done and bound, a little ahead, but just to show you how it would look like all finished.

I just love the combo of florals and geometrics!

You can see a peek of my sewing machine – yup this is our living room. I was working on the machine here instead of our sewing room, because my sewing room is also the bedroom of our kids. You can read and see more of my sewing room HERE>.

I have to sew way early in the morning as that is the only time I have, and my kids are not yet awake at those time, so I have this sewing machine set up in the living room.

It is all about making time and finding ways to make it happen! Wouldn’t you agree?

I have to show you the setup of the sewing machine in the living area sometimes soon, cause it will be really useful for someone who have to tidy up every time after their sewing session. After many years sewing on the dining table, I think this one was definitely a better option. I’ll share soon about that.

Anyway, back to the quilt.

Free Motion Quilting

I quilted it with simple meandering, relatively large scale, and I managed to get it done in an afternoon. Pretty quick because the design covers a large area pretty quickly.

Binding

Well, now the quilt is all bound, in pretty zigzag stripe. I love this binding fabric. I just feel like it can easily suits many of the quilts I make. The colours and the simple lines I guess makes it so versatile.

Basics like these are great to stock up, cause they make perfect bindings! In saying that, this month’s basic SALE has lots of stripes, polka dots in all great colours, make sure you check that out HERE>

The pattern did call for a final border, but I had to skip that cause I didn’t have enough fabrics and as an international (and someone who lives in a country that doesn’t have many quilt shop) I have to make do with what I already have in stash.

Which is good sometime.

I think I like it without the border too.

I also added a simple label using the label I talked about earlier in THIS POST HERE>. I love the simplicity.

So are you making one too?
